Dillon County Chief Deputy Sheriff Douglas Pernell’s name will appear on November’s ballot as petition candidate against Major Hulon, who won the Democratic primary election for Dillon County sheriff.

The deadline to file as a petition candidate for the office was noon Tuesday.

To be eligible to run as a petition candidate, Pernell said, he had to get 5 percent of the registered voters in Dillon County to sign a petition form.

He said he submitted a form with 1,988 signatures to the county elections commission by Tuesday’s deadline.

The commission has until Aug. 15 to accept or decline Pernell’s petition.
