A Pageland boy died Thursday after the mo-ped he was riding crashed into a truck, S.C. Highway Patrol reports show.

The incident happened Tuesday at 5:35 p.m. at the intersection of S.C. 265 and Kirkley Road in Chesterfield County.

The boy, whose name wasn’t available at press time, and a passenger were traveling south on Kirkley Road on a 2008 Silverfox mo-ped when he disregarded a stop sign and struck a 1989 GMC truck traveling east on S.C. 265.

The boy, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, and his passenger, a 20-year-old Mount Croghan resident, were ejected from the mo-ped.

The passenger wasn’t injured, but the boy was airlifted to Charlotte, N.C., for medical treatment and later died.

Two people traveling inside the truck were wearing seat belts and not injured in the crash.
