One dead after Marlboro County crash

A Marlboro County man died after a single-car accident in Marlboro County Wednesday morning.

It happened at 8:05 a.m. on S.C. 9, about 1 ½ miles west of Clio, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

The driver ran off the road and the 1996 Ford flipped, throwing the driver and his passenger out of the vehicle.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the passenger as Lonnie Samuel of Bennettsville, who died of internal injuries.

The driver was airlifted to a hospital in North Carolina, Collins said.

The crash remains under investigation, he said.
