Marlboro County sheriff’s deputies have arrested the wife and brother-in-law of an Indiana truck driver in connection with his April 5 slaying.
The body of 40-year-old Scott Allen Massom was found in a family member’s yard on Cartrette Circle in McColl, sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Seales said in a previous interview.
Massom’s brother-in-law, Jamie Head, was arrested Thursday morning and is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, petit larceny and armed robbery.
Massom’s wife, Helen Head, was taken into custody Thursday in Valparaiso, Ind., and charged with accessory after the fact of murder, giving false information to law enforcement officers and obstruction of justice.
Massom had been traveling with his wife from Valparaiso, Ind., and stopped in McColl to visit family and friends when he was killed.
An autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston revealed Massom had been shot multiple times.
Helen Head initially told investigators she found her husband dead near his truck after going to check on him early the morning of April 5.
Jamie Head spoke to several media outlets, including WBTW News13, after the crime and said he couldn’t understand why anyone would have hurt Massom.
Marlboro County sheriff’s investigators were in Indiana at the time of Helen Head’s arrest and hope to extradite her to South Carolina.
Jamie Head is in the Marlboro County Detention Center and is expected to go before a circuit court judge soon for a bond hearing.
