Man shot in chest after Dillon County argument

A man was shot in the chest during a dispute late Friday afternoon, Dillon County Sheriff Major Hulon said.

The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. on Hickory Street in the Newtown community of Dillon County. Two men were involved in an argument when one man shot the other, Hulon said.

The victim is being treated at an area hospital. The suspect was taken into custody soon after shooting, but hasn’t been formally charged yet with a crime, Hulon said.

The shooting remains under investigation, he said.
