Man accused of sexually assaulting 1-year-old

A Florence man was arrested Thursday after police say he sexually assaulted a 1-year-old child, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.

Lorenzo Dominic Sellers, 22, of 407 Dixie St. is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor younger than 11, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.

Police say the abuse happened when a mother left her child in the suspect’s care, Raines said.

When the mother saw the toddler again, she noticed the toddler had several injuries to the face and body, Raines said. Staff at a local hospital later discovered injuries to the child’s rectum.

Sellers remains in custody at the jail in Effingham awaiting a bond hearing.
