A Hartsville man was arrested Monday after police said he and two others pistol-whipped and robbed a cab driver, Darlington Police Capt. Danny Watson said.

Derrick Jarell Lawson, 20, of 704 E. Chapman St. is charged with armed robbery, Darlington County Detention Center bookings reports show.

The incident happened June 17 on Chalmers Street when three suspects struck a cab driver several times with a handgun and fled the scene, Watson said.

Lawson is the first to be identified in connection with the case, Watson said. Police expect to make more arrests.

Lawson remains in custody at the jail in Darlington on a $50,000 bond.
