Judge sentences Florence man to eight years in jail

A Florence man was sentenced to eight years in prison for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and possessing a firearm, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins.

Lamonte McAllister was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Terry L. Wooten. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham of the Florence office.

Florence police and agents working with the Operation Intercept Fugitive Task Force were searching for McAllister, who was wanted for assault and battery charges.

They found McAllister and two others in a Florence motel room, according to the release.  Authorities also found 15 grams of crack and a Colt .38 special police revolver in the room. 

The case was investigated by the Florence police, U.S. Marshals, FBI agents and those working with Operation Intercept, according to the release.
