A Johnsonville man was arrested Tuesday after police he broke into a man’s home and hit him repeatedly with an iron and a DVD player, Johnsonville Police Chief Ron Douglas said.

Kevin Singletary, 30, of 339 Azalea St. is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and first-degree burglary in connection with the incident, Florence County Detention Center bookings reports show.

The suspect broke into the home of an acquaintance located on Mosswood Lane and began assaulting him, Douglas said. The suspect hit the victim several times with a DVD player and an iron and told the victim he was going to kill him.

The victim suffered a broken nose and an injury to his lip as a result of the attack.

The suspect, who was out on bond on drug charges, ran from the scene but was eventually arrested in Williamsburg County and taken to the Florence County jail in Effingham, where he remains in custody.
