A Johnsonville man is being held on a $150,000 bond after police said he stabbed his estranged wife in the mouth with a kitchen knife, Johnsonville Police Chief Ron Douglas said.
Buster Joe Haywood, 39, of 708 Cowhead Road is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.
The incident happened Aug. 20 at the victim’s home in Springhill Apartments when the suspect came to visit the couple’s children, Douglas said. When an argument ensued, the suspect walked into the kitchen and returned with a knife which he used to stab the victim in the mouth and back.
The victim suffered serious injury to her gums and lost several teeth as a result of the attack, Douglas said.
The suspect fled into Williamsburg County after the incident, but was found that day by deputies and police and arrested, the chief said.
Douglas said the suspect has been arrested before for assaulting the same victim who had a restraining order on him at the time of the stabbing.
Haywood remains in custody at the jail in Effingham.

no no no I said punch her next week when they are back together and she makes him mad again just PUNCH her in the throat or pull her hair, gouge her eyes something else man you should not have to use a knife against a woman
Sound like you do condone abuse, why would he have to push her, men don’t do this kind of thing, only cowards.
Our state, country, and indeed the whole world is overrun with such dysfunctional people. And they are reproducing at a frightening rate. How long, O Lord, how long?
I don’t condone his actions but some women can push too far! He should have just punched her!
That should have read ‘obviously’.
You’re right, I have known of both parties having to have the order even tho one is the victim; who knows in this case.
Women (and men) need to learn once they are away from the abuser, stay away, no matter what. Guess she forgot her lesson.
That is the worst, that children were in the home, possibly witnessed the violence. Let’s hope the parent teaches them that isn’t the way to cope.
Angelswalk it says here that he had assaulted the same victim before and that there had been a restraining order on him at the time of the stabbbing, so I am wondering why that haven’t charged him for violating a court order for that, and also when there is a restraining order it works both ways, so she should not have let him in the house, but called authorities, but who knows maybe he forced himself him. It also says though that he was there visiting the children which other arrangements for him to see them should have been made since there is an court order. Sorry for the victim and the children who I imagine witnessed the whole mess.
Good going to Ron and whoever is responsible for the actual capture. This probably wasn’t his first violent act and most likely not his last. Keep people like this in jail, behind bars where they belong because it is obviously how they want to be. They can play with others like them.
