HopeHealth named charitable ‘Angel’ by the Secretary of State
FLORENCE - South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond announced this year’s charitable organizations list of “Scrooges and Angels” Wednesday in Columbia.
At a press conference held at the state house, the 10 angel awards were presented to those organizations registered in South Carolina that exemplify charitable giving by dedicating a high percentage of their total revenue to programs and services that benefit those in need.
According to a press release from HopeHealth, Carl Humphries, CEO of HopeHealth, was present in Columbia to receive the award. “We are very excited to be recognized by the Secretary of State as a top charity. There are over 8000 registered charities in South Carolina and only 10 are selected each year as “Angels.” This is a great honor for us,” Said Humphries.
There are several criteria that the Secretary of State’s office uses to determine the scrooges and the angels. To be an angel, the charity must have been in existence for 3 years, collected revenue greater than $20,000 and spend 80% or more of its revenue on program goals. HopeHealth spent 89.9% of its funding on programs and services last year. Nick Townsend, Chairman of the Board of Directors had this to say about the award, “What a great honor for a most deserving organization to receive. I have known from the beginning that we have always been “ANGELS”… to a lot of people. Thanks for all that HopeHealth has done and continues to do to make a difference in so many lives.”
