Former school’s contents up for sale
The contents of the former Timmonsville High School in Florence School District 4 will be up for sale in May.
Items such as furniture, equipment and books will be up for sale in May and all proceeds will go into the district’s general fund, Superintendent Dr. Bertha McCants said during the board’s quarterly retreat Tuesday.
Items such as trophies or pictures will not be a part of the sale. A date and time for the sale has not been determined, McCants said.
Board member David Morris suggested principals and other staff be allowed to look through the items to see if there is anything that could be used at the Timmonsville Education Center.
In other business, McCants briefly discussed a plan that would establish an alternate site for students attending the district’s alternative school.
McCants said she met with administrators Tuesday to come up with ways to help alleviate overcrowding issues at the district’s alternative school.
The plan that was proposed called for the creation of a transitional site for students who are preparing to return to their home school.
McCants said the district could use a mobile unit that’s located behind Johnson Middle School to house at least 11 students who are transitioning from the alternative school or have shown they’re ready to return to the traditional classroom setting.
The transition site will allow the district to free up some space at the alternative school for 10 students who are on the school’s waiting list.
Students will be able to move to the transition site after spring break.
Also during the meeting, Morris requested information on the amount and type of grants that are used by the district as well as information on other funding sources.
Board member Mary Hyman requested the board revisit the recent discipline policy change at the high school level concerning students being sent to the alternative school.
The board also discussed funding for a school resource officer, an assistant to the director of operations and a financial report format among other items.
