Effingham fire victim identified

A firefighter from the Hannah-Salem-Friendfield Fire Department douses the smoldering remnants of the fire at a mobile home Thursday morning on Friendfield Road in Effingham.

The victim of Thursday’s mobile home fire in Effingham has been identified.
Willie James Gaymon, 80, died at the scene on Friendfield Road as a result of injuries he suffered in the fire, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.
Gaymon’s wife suffered serious burns and is being treated at the burn center in Augusta, Ga., Matthews said.
Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Camp said the fire happened about 9:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
