Florence 5 school board filing opens

Filing for Seats 1, 4, and 7 of Florence County School District 5 Board of Trustees will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning June 15.

Filing will close at noon July 1.

Residents in the district may register as a candidate for the board at the school district’s office at 156 E. Marion St., Johnsonville. A candidate must be 18 years old and a resident elector in the Johnsonville schools attendance area.

Single-member District 1 (Seat 1) is located primarily in the Hickory Hill/Oak Hill/Southwestern Kingsburg, Eastern Neck areas.

Only eligible voters who reside within Single-member District 1 may seek election for that seat.

Single-member District 4 (Seat 4) is located primarily in the Pine Oaks/Wellman Country Club/Southeastern Vox areas. Only eligible voters who reside within that district may seek election for that seat.

Seat Seven (7) is an At-large seat. Any eligible voter in the Johnsonville schools attendance area may seek election for Seat 7.

The election will be Sept. 8 in the gymnasium of Johnsonville High School, 237 S. Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville.

To participate in the in the Sept. 8 election, voters must register by Aug. 8.

Absentee ballots for the election will be available in Room 53 of the Florence County Public Services Building, 2685 S. Irby St., Florence.

A run-off election, if necessary, will be held Sept. 22.
