Members of Florence School District 2 Board of Trustees have approved first reading of a board policy that will allow residents of the Pamplico-based district to vote for school board members during a 12-hour time frame instead of only one hour.

Voting would take place at Hannah-Pamplico High School.

The board approved updating board policy BBB-Board Membership-Elections to reflect a time change and location for voting during a regular meeting Monday, Superintendent Robert Sullivan said Wednesday.

During a September board meeting, board member Mona Lisa Andrews discussed expanding the voting hours from one hour to 12 hours in order to allow more time for people to vote.

The results would be announced after the voting period ends.

School board elections are held the same day as the district’s annual citizen’s meeting March 26.

School board elections are from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hannah-Pamplico High School’s gym on the same day as the citizen’s meeting.

During the citizen’s meeting, the board reviews the district’s budget with the community before voting on it for final reading.

Sullivan said the district has received clearance from the Department of Justice to change the time and location of the school board elections.

If a runoff is required, the election would be conducted one or two weeks after the citizen’s meeting instead of on the same day.
