Williamsburg County investigators continue to track down leads in the murder of a Nesmith woman.
Cora Brown was found in her own home last Thursday.
She was 53 years old, and investigators say she was shot to death.
Brown’s family is now speaking out about the incident, and their search for answers.
Michael Brown is Cora Brown’s youngest brother, and says he had a feeling that something was terribly wrong when he hadn’t heard from his sister for some time.
“When I came by last Thursday and both cars were there, and I got the call she didn’t show up to work that day, that’s when it was time to, you know, start looking around a little bit,“ said Michael Brown.
Michael and his siblings did just that.
They got together and decided to try to find Cora, and the first place they looked, was her home.
Cora’s siblings had to force open the locked door, and once inside, they found her lying on the floor.
“My initial concern is that she might have been sick and might have fallen, just couldn’t’ get to the phone, that was the initial concern even up to the point that when I saw her there, I thought she might of passed out or something…but that’s not how it came to be,“ Michael said.
Autopsy results showed someone shot Cora in the back and in the head.
For her family, the pain of discovering her dead is amplified by the fact that they don’t know how or why it happened.
“It still seems a bit unreal you know, things just normally don’t happen in this area. We’re just trying to deal with it every day. I’m working at all the arrangements making sure everything is taken care of and we’ll just let the Sheriff’s Department do what they do and hopefully we’ll find out who did this thing,“ said Michael.
Now Michael Brown and the rest of his family are looking to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Department to find the person responsible for the crime, make an arrest in the case and give them some sense of closure.
So far there are no arrests in this case.
