DILLON—Dillon County could have a new coroner in place as early as next week.

Gov. Mark Sanford’s office is in the process of appointing a new coroner, Ben Fox, governor’s spokesman, said.

Long-time Coroner Dan Grimsley died in office Oct. 12.

The decision on a replacement probably won’t come until next week, he said.

“We are very much in the process,“ Fox said “ It’s something we want to do so sooner than later.“

Dillon county attorney Dan Shine sent a letter this week to Sanford’s office requesting Randy Grimsley, one of the late coroner Dan Grinsley’s two sons, be appointed as coroner.
