WIX Filtration Corp. in Dillon County has joined the growing number of companies in the state establishing a federally recognized apprenticeship program through Apprenticeship Carolina.

WIX Filtration, a company that has been manufacturing filters in Dillon County since 1977, is the first registered apprenticeship program to be established in that county, according to a press release issued by Northeastern Technical College.

Apprentices of the WIX Filtration program will be trained on the job by a mentor for 6,000 hours or three years in electro-mechanical technology, and for more than 1,600 hours of classroom training provided by Northeastern Technical College.

Apprentices will earn not only the nationally recognized apprenticeship credential, but also an associate degree from Northeastern Tech.

Apprenticeship Carolina, which is a division of the South Carolina Technical College System, works to ensure all employers in the state have access to the information and technical assistance they need to create demand-driven registered apprenticeship programs, according to the release.

Apprenticeship consultants are available for free to guide companies through the registered apprenticeship development process from initial information to full recognition in the National Registered Apprenticeship System.

Interested employers can contact Apprenticeship Carolina at (803) 896-5287 or visit http://www.apprenticeshipcarolina.com.
