Family salon Cut Ups opens in Marion

Four weeks ago Katie Lett’s new start began when she opened her first family salon, Cut Ups.

As a Marion native, Lett had the support of her family and friend as she moved back to the area for a fresh start.  When the shop became available she jumped on the opportunity.

Lett and her family have been working on the salon since August.

Lett attended Betty Stevens Cosmetology School in Florence.  After graduation she gained experience in Florence working at Great Clips and Regis.

With two years of experience under her belt, Lett said she was ready to be her own boss.

“I feel like I got a lot of experience in the previous places I worked.  In between the time I moved back home and actually opening I was doing hair out of the house.  I’m very comfortable with what I do and I felt like I could handle it,” Lett said.

Mary Woodberry, of Marion, said she has known Lett since she was a little girl, for about 20 years.  Woodberry is one of Lett’s regular clients, seeing her about every three weeks since March.

“I come to Katie because she cuts my hair the way I like, I’m relaxed with her,” Woodberry said.

Lett and her family salon, on the corner of N. Main St. and E. Dozier St., are testing the waters for now.

“I’m going to see how it goes financially for six months.  I think I have very reasonable prices, hopefully I can stay open,” Lett said.

Cut Ups is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
