Published: November 24, 2009
The public is invited to a Divine Liturgy service at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church in Florence.
The Divine Liturgy is the celebration of the Eucharist in the Orthodox Christian Church and has its roots in Apostolic worship. Only Orthodox Christians will be permitted to receive the Eucharist.
Father Athanasios C. Haros is pastor of the church, at 2990 S. Cashua Drive.
“We are really excited about opening our doors to the rest of Florence,” he said. “People always think they have to be Greek to attend Transfiguration. We are Russian, Lebanese, Filipino, Indian, Native American, Palestinian, Italian, Greek and ‘good ole Americans’ worshiping God as one family.
For details, call the church at (843) 662-5471 or visit its Web site, http://www.Florence GreekOrthodox.org.
