FLORENCE — Carolina Bank has donated $1,500 to Henry Timrod Elementary School to help provide incentives for its students.

Vera Herbert, vice president for Carolina Bank, presented the check to the school earlier this week.

Thurmond Williams, the school’s principal, said Carolina Bank has been the school’s High Performance Partner for years.

This latest donation is much-needed, given the amount of state budget cuts the district has had to absorb, he said.

“Money that we would’ve gotten in the past (to help with incentives), we didn’t get because of (state budget cuts),” Williams said. “This (donation) is very helpful.”

The donation will be used for incentives for students who make the honor roll, meet goals in the school’s Reading Renaissance program, have perfect attendance and students who do their best on Measures of Academic Progress and state testing.

In the past, the school has been able to give special dinners or arrange other activities for students for their achievements, Williams said, The school wanted to continue the tradition this year.

Herbert said the bank has enjoyed its partnership with the school.

“They are a great school to partner with,” she said. “They believe in their students (and) we have always believed in giving back to the community.”

The High Performance Partnership program was established as a business-to-school partnership through the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.
