Authorities investigate Southern Florence County fire

A South Lynches Firefighter uses a shovel to assist in cutting a trench around a fire that burned about three acres on the 1,300 block of Olanta Highway near Lake City earlier today.
A brush fire burned about three acres of woods near the 1,300 block of Olanta Highway near Lake City earlier today.
Anthony Eaddy, a supervisor with the South Carolina Forestry Commission said the fire started about 3 p.m. and officials used bulldozers to cut a trench around the fire to keep it from spreading.
Olanta Fire Chief Jimmy Coker said individuals always need to be safe and pay attention when burning outdoors.
Coker said to make sure the area in which you are burning is clean before you start a fire and fires should not be left unattended.
Coker said he has seen coals reignite once the wind speed picks up after sitting for nearly three days.
Carelessness usually is the cause of brush fires and you always need to out fires completely with water, Coker said.
South Lynches Fire Department responded to the fire.
Eaddy said no one was injured and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
