Victim of fatal Latta house fire identified

Dillon County authorities are investigating a fatal house fire.

Firefighters were called to a home on Legare Street in Latta about 2 a.m. Monday.

The one person who was inside the home at the time, Harry Bethea Jr., died in the fire, according to Shipman’s Funeral Home of Latta.

Bethea’s body will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy to help determine the cause of death.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started. State Law Enforcement Division agents are assisting in the investigation.
