The person killed in a crash between two vehicles on westbound Interstate 20 on Monday night has been identified as a North Carolina woman.

Patricia White McPherson, 60, of Whiteville, died at an area hospital of injuries she suffered when the sport-utility vehicle she was driving collided with a pickup truck and flipped just before 7 p.m. near mile marker 136 in Darlington County, Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee said in a press release.

The driver of the pickup wasn’t injured., S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

As traffic backed up as a result of the crash, two tractor-trailers collided atop the brige at the 137 mile marker, Collins said.

A portion of I-20 westbound in Darlington County remained closed Tuesday morning. S.C. Department of Transportation workers are examining the bridge for possible damage.

Collins said the highway patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crashes.
