A Dillon County sheriff’s deputy is facing a criminal domestic violence charge, Dillon County Sheriff Major Hulon said.
A report released Friday by Hulon shows Cpl. Robert Paul Grimsley, 38, is charged in connection with an incident that happened Wednesday.
Deputies said when they responded to the call in Latta, the victim, identified as Grimsley’s live-in girlfriend, had a bruise on her right leg, the side of her neck and the back of her neck.
She told deputies the physical abuse stemmed from a series of arguments the two had that week, according to the report. She also said the suspect has been physically abusing her for more than a year.
According to the report, some deputies asked the victim to report prior incidents, but she said she didn’t want to because she “did not want to get the suspect in trouble.“
Grimsley was booked at the Dillon County Detention Center on Thursday and released the same day on a $2,100 personal recognizance bond.
The State Law Enforcement Division, which usually handles such investigations involving county or municipal law enforcement officers, is investigating this case.
Hulon said Grimsley remains on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

An abuser is not necessarily going to abuse every person he has a relationship with.
Abuse does not always show up in pictures.
Just because one may not be an ‘angel’ does not mean she/he should be abused.
Abuse is not love.
Abuse is control.
Abuse is criminal.
Abuse is saying the abuser has issues.
Other news sources have some very interesting comments on this one.
To the alleged victim, stay away, no matter WHAT is said or done to get you back in that situation yet again, stay away, it won’t go well no matter what you think or may be led to believe.
One thing I can say if the accusations are true, at least she didn’t try to defend herself and end up arrested also.
Prayers for all involved, even those defending him.
Don;t believe everything you hear. Everyone always believes the victim. Well I lived with this man for over a year and have known him since we were kids. I never feared or ever did he raise his hand to harm me or would he ever. I stand behind him till the end. I know in my heart he has not done this and never would. Just remember what comes around goes around. And it will always come back on you. Don’t be so quick to judge. I have seen the pictures and the report I made my own opinion. And he will have his day in court. We will see…

When domestic violence is reported, so many automatically blame the victim. What people fail to understand is that victimized people usually go to great lengths to help keep the troubled individual out of more trouble. They take the responsibility off the attacker, hide it, until finally they no longer can.
I hope safety and peace for them both. Emotional health is a valuable thing.
The minute someone is arrested they are convicted by the public. However the overwhelming majority of people who are arrested are guilty, but people need to understand that sometimes there’s a lot more to the story than meets they eye. All it takes is someone to give a good story and want to pursue charges against someone so essentially it’s the “victim” prosecuting you using the state when it comes to crimes not witnessed by a law enforcement officer. The sad thing is that IF this guy is innocent when this all plays out, his image will be scarred no matter if the “victim” was making the whole thing up. I’m definitly not taking anyone’s side on this but I know how people convict anyone who gets arrested automatically.
not trying to be rude but any other time the name would be released and pictures would be put up of anyone accused of committing a crime. seems he is getting special treatment because he wears a badge? i have known innocent people who have been arrested and their picture is posting saying they were arressted and charged. but when found innocent they are still scarred because alot of times you cant even get a job now if u go to jail for any reason. it doesnt matter that you are innocent. its just your picture has been posted on the news and on the sheriffs websight. so in my opinion this deputy needs to be treated just like everyone else.
