One suspect is in custody and a second sought by Horry County investigators following the slaying of David Jermaine Lane, 28, 1125 Oscar Lane, Little River, Friday.
Horry County unemployment raises concerns
Horry County’s immediate economic future may not be as good as it once looked. The Coastal Workforce Center in Conway reported the county’s unemployment rate stands at 12.2 percent for October, up from September when it was 10.9 percent.

A jury came back with a not guilty verdict in the trial of Miles Lee Ferguson, who was accused of killing his 5-week-old daughter. Prosecutors and defense attorneys finished their closing arguments shortly after 5pm Wednesday.
Local instrument drive benefits Horry County students
Martha Gasque leads her Whittemore Park Middle School students in practice every day in advance of this year’s wintertime concert. Gasque says some of her students, though, can barely afford to be in band, because instruments can be so expensive. She says more than 60% of her sixth grade students use school-owned instruments.

Lowder knocks off Martino to win seat on Myrtle Beach City Council
Challenger Mike Lowder defeated incumbent Chuck Martino Tuesday to win one of two seats on the Myrtle Beach City Council. Both men finished behind Randal Wallace, who was re-elected in the run-off to his third term on council.
Rhodes re-elected mayor of Myrtle Beach
Voters in Myrtle Beach re-elected John Rhodes to a second term as mayor on Tuesday. Rhodes held off a challenge from former mayor Mark McBride, who he forced from office in 2005. In the runoff election, with 100% of the precincts reporting, Rhodes finished with 2,649 votes to McBride’s 2,157 votes.
