Horry County Police charged 65-year-old Dock Edward Gasque of Aynor and 53-year-old Johnny Earl Alford in connection to a shooting that sent 32-year-old Kelly Michael Rabon to the hospital on Oct.1.

Investigators said Gasque shot at Rabon several times before one of the bullets hit Rabon in the side of his body.

The shooting happened at Gasque’s Hucks Road home.

Horry County Police arrested Rabon Monday and charged him with second degree burglary after police said he broke into Gasque’s home with the intent to commit a crime and he “he entered the dwelling after warning that he wanted to physically assault the victim Dock E. Gasque.”

Rabon admitted he went to Gasque’s home because he said Gasque was selling drugs to his wife but he never got his hands on Gasque, “I did go with bad intentions toward Dock. When I got there, he shot me in the front yard before I got a chance to even do anything. I was going toward him, yes sir I was, and he shot me before I could get to him,” Rabon told a judge Tuesday.

Investigators initially said the shooting happened without “any circumstance of justification in that the victim remained a considerable distance from the defendant throughout the incident, and presented no means of impending peril to the defendant,” according to the arrest warrant served on Gasque and Alford on Oct. 6.

Gasque faces one charge of assault and battery with intent to kill.

Gasque told News13 following the Tuesday hearing that he didn’t know what Rabon had planned when he broke into his home and came after him.

Gasque said he fired a shot in the air, then at Rabon’s feet and that Rabon kept coming at him before he shot him in the side.

Investigators charged Alford with accessory after the fact to a felony because Alford gave Gasque the gun used to shoot Rabon, then left the scene with the gun following the shooting, according to the warrant.

Medics rushed Rabon to the Conway Hospital and performed emergency surgery on the gunshot wound, according to police and released Rabon on Oct. 10.

A county magistrate set Gasque’s bond at $20,000 and $15,000 on Alford for the accessory charge.

A judge set Rabon’s bond at $25,000 and ordered him to wear a GPS monitor, then doubled it to $50,000 after Rabon threatened Gasque in bond court Tuesday.

Both Gasque and Alford are free on bond and Rabon remained jailed as of this posting.
