A teenager faces two counts of felony driving under the influence after an accident early Sunday morning in Myrtle Beach.

According to Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes, 17-year-old Laodicea Phillips is charged with two counts of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, and one count of disregarding a traffic signal.

Investigators say Phillips was driving north on Broadway around 2 a.m. Sunday when she ran the red light at the intersection with Highway 501, and hit a motorcycle on the side, throwing the rider off.

Captain Knipes said Phillips continued driving until she hit a building.

Police say the man on the motorcycle was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

i agree with angelwalks comment. why was this 17yr old child doing out at that time of night and why were her parents letting her. her parents should be bought up in court for having no control over her whereabouts and what she was doing and why she was not home by a certain time. curvew for a 17 year old should have been no later than 11pm in my opinion.

#1 Ms. Moore, I also send out my prayers for your brothers speedy recovery.  He did not deserve this to happen to him.  This young woman, just minutes before hitting your brother, almost ran into 2 other bikers that I know and love very dearly.  My heartfelt prayers are with your family.

#2 The Horry County cop that “got off” a few years back in Murrells Inlet, “got off” because it was determined, to my understanding, that the bikers did not have their lights on and therefore the officer did not see them. It was an awful, tragic accident, but it was an accident.

#3 Rhodes has absolutely nothing to do with the fate of this young woman.  Her fate will be determined by the Solicitor’s office, not the Myrtle Beach Mayor!

#4 I await for the discovery of where these 3 young women(the driver and her 2 female passengers)were able to obtain the alcohol that they had consumed!

We have to wonder if this party girl will be given much more than probation or a slap on the wrist. When the H.C. cop killed the people on the boss hoss in Murrells in let a few years back they got off. It would not surprise me if Mr. Rhodes gives this girl all kinds of special treatment.  We will all be waiting to see just how little justice is left on the Grand Strand. So much for being a safe tourist friendly town. How drunk was this girl or was she using some other drugs? Where was she coming from? Where were all the police road blocks like the ones they had during Memorial Day? I guess they only do road blocks during very high traffic tourism weeks. It seems like this town is cursed. If they let this girl slid they can send a message to all the other young drivers that it is ok to party and then drive. I wonder if she had planed to go to school at Coastal next year or is partying what she plans to do with here future?

The man on the motorcycle is my older brother. He is very lucky to be alive. The bottom line is this girl is underage for alcohol consumption, she got behind the wheel of a car, and now she needs to be held accountable for her actions. She put the lives of others and her own at risk. This girl has forever altered my brother’s life, and her own.

Way to build self-esteem there, make sure others don’t become jaded by your words.
It’s called individuality.

This young lady (and others like herself, 17!) should not be out partying or just coming home at this time of the morning.
She should have parents and parental guidance.
