Site of home invasion at Courtyard 1 Apartments on Burcale Road.
A home invasion leaves one man dead and another is on the lose.
County police say, around 9 last night, two suspects broke into a house on Burcale Road in Myrtle Beach.
Police are investigating the shooting death that occurred at Courtyard 1 Apartments on Burcale Road, that’s near the Clay Pond village community.
They say, the owner was home at the time of the robbery and shot one suspect while the other took off.
Police also tell News 13, that neighbors living next to the burglary victim’s apartment heard gun shots and a round of gunfire went through their apartment wall.
When police arrived at the house they say, the owner was just putting down his gun when they saw one of the suspects lying on the ground dead with two gun shot wounds.
The deceased suspect is, 22-year-old Lamont Lee Reed Durrell of Georgetown.
Police took the burglary victim into custody but was later released.
They say he was assaulted but not hurt during the altercation of the home invasion.
Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department confirms that no charges will be filed against the home owner.
“Every situation when it comes to a home owner defending himself inside of his is different” says Sgt. Kegler, “There’s a lot of things we need to do before our case is closed”.
Police are looking to charge the run away suspect with burglary, armed robbery and assault with intent to kill.
They are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect who escaped the scene before police arrived.
They hope a description may help them lead to that home invader. He is described as a white male in his twenties about 5ft 10’, thin built, wearing all dark clothing, a dark hat and a blue bandanna over his face. He is possibly from Georgetown as well.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Horry County Police Department at 915-5350 or 915-TIPS.

I am not going to pretend like I even know these guys motivation for breaking in to someones home. I cannot just assume it is crack. All I am saying is a lot of burglaries and robberies have been occurring in general and it is because a lot of otherwise hard working people can’t find jobs as well. Many are struggling right now to keep food on the table. I am not saying what these men did was commendable, just that everyone is going crazy right now over money. If you aren’t in the same situation, you WOULDN’T UNDERSTAND of course. I am not trying to break into anyone’s house, but I understand why things like this are happening everyday. People are losing their minds right now and to simply blame it on crack (which may even be a possibility) would be ignorant on all of our parts. You say it’s people who don’t want to work but NO ONE is hiring in Myrtle Beach, NOWHERE! Take a look around Lacy before you just make ignorant statements.
Now if someone broke into my home they’d get the same treatment! That I do not disagree with but I also know why this is happening. Home invasions, robberies and a slew of other crime has been on the rise this year directly because of the failing economy. If you were fired from your job, and couldn’t find work (and now we are about to lose unemployment benefits in SC!)or lost your apartment or home, or just went two, three, four days hungry, maybe you’d think about doing crazy things too. It doesn’t make it right or justified it is just a reason. Believe me it is going to get worse!
And yes there are crackheads out there who are just doing this to get high but this was a young guy from a poor town who more than likely was not a crackhead. Again, I am not condoning his actions just attempting to understand the cause.
I can tell you what is driving these people to do these things Shamsta19 .
One word. (crack). Economy hadnt gotten nothing to do with this. It low-life bums that dont want to work. They want quick cash on the spot. I could type alot but I will save it for later.
I see it everyday standing on the streets in the town Im from. They dont work but they got clothes on fit to kill.
Someone comes to my house they are gona get the same thing..
Thumbs up to the HomeOwner!
I agree Cats. This wasn’t someone shoplifting food to feed the family. When a person knowingly enters an occupied home for the sole purpose of robbing and/or assaulting the occupant(s), they deserve what they get. Bleeding hearts aside, good job homeowner.
I agree with the first 2 posts - GOOD JOB HOMEOWNER! Anyone who tries to rob a person, REGARDLESS of how tough times are for us - deserves a bullet in their butt - to die from it.. not so much - just be taught a valuable lesson!
It is also equally a shame that people have to resort to things like this to survive here right now. It is getting increasingly difficult for the average person to stay afloat right now. I am not condoning breaking and entering, I just understand what is driving people to do these things. If the economy doesn’t improve, things will only get worse.
Thank goodness this homeowner stood up for himself! Imagine how many MORE home invasions will occur if we lose our right to own guns. It’s already happened in Australia and our new president is leading us down the same path. We, the people, have to stand up for ourselves and our rights.
