The Myrtle Beach mayoral race will end with a run-off race between two men familiar with the position.

Mayor John Rhodes and former Mayor Mark McBride received the plurality of votes in Tuesday’s election.

Rhodes received 2,540 votes and McBride received 1,472.

“We’re just going to campaign and get out and address the issues that have happened over the last week,“ said McBride, “it’s the sales tax issue it’s the biker issue it’s the month of may running business off it’s crime and frankly it’ll be a discussion on dirty politics and gutter politics in the city of Myrtle Beach.“

The other candidates running received the following:
Bill Howard: 944
Matthew McCarty: 222
Beatrice Catalano: 167

After the results came in, Howard told News13 he will endorse McBride in the Nov. 17 election.

“Well it is the most logical choice,“ said Howard, “we’ve had so much going on with Myrtle Beach’s turmoil that we need some one who has a lot of energy and Mark McBride has a lot of that energy and if we stand behind him I think we can bring a lot of things to the surface and we can maybe get back some of the tourism.“

It is becoming very clear that neither of these two candidates are going to be willing to talk about crime. Rhodes is playing the ENOUGH IS ENOUGH FEAR CARD, while McBride is playing the I WILL BE SUPPORTING EVERYONE YOUNG OLD, RICH POOR BUISNESS OWNERS AND UNEMPLOYED.
But since all the bikers have stopped coming and have vowed never to return along with the bike week vendors, it makes no sense for the elderly retirees that cried for peace a quiet and got it to be afraid that the bikers would ever return. It is over and they are not coming back. So if anyone has anything to fear other than high taxis it is crime. No tourist will want to come to the Grand Strand as long as it is no longer a fun, safe, family friendly town.  But for some reason neither Rhodes or McBride are unwilling to talk about crime. Rhodes did nothing to deal with crime and so it is no wonder that he will avoid the issue and it is looking more and more like McBride does not have a clue where to begin, so neither is willing to touch the real core issue. That must mean that we had all get used to live in the jungle.

Congradulations to Mayor Rhodes for out polling his nearest rival by nearly 2:1.President Clinton never garnered over 50% of the vote. The run-off makes as much sense as the now defunct run-off in Afghanistan where Pres. Karsai was declared the winner after his opponent bowed out. Bringing back a has been Mayor is not the fresh blood Rhodes’ opponents were talking about.Let’s all pull together and make MB a better place to live in.

First off I would like to make the comment that I feel it is terribly unfair that people who live in Horry County & also carry a Myrtle Beach address and Drivers License should be able to vote.
Myrtle Beach is a very small area compared to Horry County.
But many, many people in Horry County work within the City Limits Of Myrtle Beach.
These people are also very much affected by the poor decisions Mayor Rhodes has made.
Running Bikers out of Myrtle Beach is the most absurd & ridcolous decision he could have made.
Rhodes made this decision right in the middle of a recession. The lines are a mile long at the unemployment office and family suffering from lack of money and jobs.
We all know that the 3 Bike Weeks in May bring in Mega Money For Our Economy.
This is a tourist town and what we make in the summer is what carries most of us through the winter.
Most of the people who complain about these events are people who have moved here.
Also, most all of these people are senior citizen who are retired and don’t work.
If you don’t agree with it just look at the Take Back May Video on the Horry County Channel and you can see for your self.
Mayor Rhodes, should have consider all the people and business this would hurt and has. He could have made a more logical decision like separate the 2 Bike Weeks so there not on top of one another.
The other huge ridiculous decision he made without the vote of the voters is the 1 cent tax for avertising Myrtle Beach Tourism.
Like the people could afford this 1 cent tax’s at the worse time in the economy.
His excuse on the news was, “Well I didn’t have time to wait on the voters we needed to get tourist to Myrtle Beach now”.
Well,he felt so desperate to get tourist here but he just ran off 350,000 of them in the worse time ever.
If you ask my opion Mayor Rhode is not to good at making the right decision for the people who live in and around the Myrtle Beach area.
Mark McBride was the Mayor of Myrtle Beach for 8 years this must be saying that he was doing something right to have been in term that long.
I always thought Mark McBride was a good Mayor and he has always looked out for the people of Myrtle Beach.
We need him back to get Myrtle Beaches business back open, running and get all tourist back to our beaches this includes Bikers.
He will get our economy back on track again.
He knows running Bikers off is a huge mistake for our economy and also is discriminating against them.
Mark McBride knows the decisions Mayor Rhodes made were poor decisions. That the tax and poor decision cost more in the end. Closed doors of our business to our people inline at foodstamp office, Welfare and unemployeement.
So come on people you have got to get out there, fight for McBride and VOTE.

I like Mark McBride and think that he is more in touch with reality. When it comes to crime and tourism he will do something rather than to simply give lip service. He will give us pre and post season results.
Like him or not he does have energy and he will do what he says, but he will also communicate with the people and will also be considerate of the business community. A real leader makes plans that will not destroy a town economically. He will think before he acts. I like that he will do something about crime and dirty politics. Maybe he can bring back the safe friendly town that Myrtle Beach once was and maybe he and help to rebuild the reputation of the Grand Strand without taxing us all to death. And I have something great to share with him once he wins the run off. I have something that is a win, win, for all. It is a small thing, but a good thing. So stay tuned for what I have to offer. I am waiting till after the run off.
P.S. No it is not illegal campaign contributions.
