As part of the Church of God’s annual patriotic service, Congressman Gresham Barrett spoke to the congregation.

Barrett represents the 3rd Congressional District in South Carolina and has announced he is running for governor.

Barrett spoke to the crowd about the leadership of King David and how he frequently uses the bible as a resource.

After the service, he said he thinks Governor Mark Sanford should resign after his recent affair with a woman from Argentina.

“We made a decision earlier this past week to ask the governor to step down. You know, with the economic environment in South Carolina, and across this nation, i think we a governor to be truly focused on turning things around for the people of South Carolina,” Barrett said.

Dogman build a bridge and get over it you do need to get it together Florence Girl is making a point regarding the foundation of our great nation it is a shame that it does not fit the new age progressive agenda you obviously possess. Your college education was money wasted if you did not gain more than your comments indicate.

Believe it or not according to the Bill of Rights Rep. Barrett   and the church he spoke at have the right to assemble, together, as a body of like minded individuals? First people endorse candidates not churches. Second having a point of view does not make someone one-sided, a fundamentalist, ignorant, or trample our Bill of Rights of which the first amendment is here for your review:

Amendment I
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Explain to the readers Dogman are you saying that people do not have freedom of speech? Or could it be that people do not have the right to peaceably assemble. Hold it might be the part about King David’s leadership you don’t like…could you be one who wants to take the Holy Bible out of society and all that disinformation. Just questions don’t blow a gasket. Got it, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. If there is no religion then there is no problem wrong.
As for the separation of church and state there is no such thing … a myth that’s right, Thomas Jefferson wrote the following:

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,“ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.”

The complete text of Jefferson’s letter can be found here http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html

Before you say a person is on an ignorant tirade that tramples the Bill of Rights it is recommended that you do not do so yourself.
Blessings,

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU DO NOT GIVE VERY MUCH CREDIT TO PEOPLE IN CHURCH, OR TO PEOPLE WHEREVER THE POLITICIAN IS SPEAKING.  IF SOMEONE I RESPECT SAYS LISTEN TO THIS PERSON, I WOULD LISTEN BUT STILL MAKE UP MY OWN MIND. I SEARCH OUT THE FACTS AND VOTE FOR THE PERSON WHO MOST CLOSELY REPRESENTS MY VIEWS. AND YES, I DO WANT TO HEAR OPPOSING SIDES.  IF YOU SHUT DOWN ANYONE, THAT IS WHERE YOUR PROBLEMS BEGIN.
I DO NOT NOT WISH TO LIVE IN A NATION THAT IS ONE-PARTY OR THAT IS ALL LIBERAL OR ALL CONSERVATIVE. THIS DIVERSITY AND FREEDOM IS PART OF THE FABRIC OF OUR GREAT NATION.

By having Rep. Barrett speak from the pulpit, the church is endorsing his candidacy which is illegal for ANY organization under 401c3 status.  It would be illegal for any church, mosque, synagogue or anyone who is tax exempt under 401c3 status to do so.  I am a Christian and I do not want my church telling me who to vote for.  It doesn’t matter what the person’s party affiliation is.  If ANY tax except organization tells you how to vote, it is breaking the law.  It doesn’t have to be a religious organization.  This is a necessary law because, to simple minded individuals, their church’s endorsement equals God’s endorsement, and politicians prey on these individuals.  Politicians depend on people being ignorant so that they can deceive these people into somehow thinking they are the best candidate because it is what God wants them to do.  My advice is to think for yourself, not what your pastor or church tells you to think.

dogman, ARE CHURCHES THE ONLY PLACES THAT YOU WOULD RESTRICT A POLITICIAN FROM SPEAKING HIS OPINION? WOULD YOU ALSO WANT TO RESTRICT CHURCHES AS THE ONLY PLACE THAT CHRISTIANS CAN SPEAK?  DO YOUR RESTRICTIONS ONLY APPLY TO CHRISTIANS AND CHRISTIAN CHURCHES?  WHERE EXACTLY ARE YOUR PERCEIVED LINES. DO YOU ALSO WANT TO BAN POLITICIANS FROM BELONGING TO A CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND BAN THEM FROM SAYING THAT THEY ARE A CHRISTIAN? I AM GRATEFUL THAT BOTH YOU AND I CAN VOICE OUR VIEWS FREELY AND I HOPE AND PRAY THAT OUR POLITICIANS WILL BE AFFORDED THE SAME PRIVILEGE.

Thank you, Florence Girl, for proving my point about the importance of keeping church and state separate with your one-sided, fundamentalist regurgitated, ignorant tirade that not only tramples all over the bill of rights but makes me feel fortunate to have a college education.

Rep. Barrett is running for public office.  His presence speaking in this church without every other candidate seeking the same office given the same opportunity suggests strongly that this church is endorsing is candidacy.  If this church is indeed a partisan organization, then it should revoke its 401c3 status (which, by the way, is for non-profit organizations) and pay taxes on its assets, including the land and building it owns.  The 401c3 requirements CLEARLY state that and organization classified as such cannot endorse a particular candidate for any public office.

dogman, you NEED to get a life and learn the truth about the lie you have taken, hook, line, and sinker.
BECAUSE A POLITICIAN SPEAKES IN A CHURCH DOES NOT MEAN THE STATE IS ESTABLISHING A STATE-ENDORSED, ENFORCED RELIGION!!!  THE LEFT-LOP-SIDED MEDIA HAVE YELLED ‘SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE’ SO MANY TIMES OVER SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THAT THE MISINFORMED PUBLIC BELIEVES THIS CUNNING LIE.
THIS IS AMERICA AND POLITICIANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK THEIR VIEW POINT IF THEY ARE INVITED TO. IN THE EARLY DAYS OF OUR GREAT NATION, THE PULPIT WAS A PLATFORM THAT HELPED TO HOLD AMERICA TOGETHER. GOD IS ALLOWED HERE IN AMERICA.  GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON, AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT. GOD’S WORD, THE HOLY BIBLE IS WELCOME IN AMERICA AND WAS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL TEXTBOOKS IN THE CLASSROOMS OF OUR GREAT NATION IN HER EARLIER DAYS. PRAYER, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, IS WELCOMED HERE IN AMERICA, AND HAS BEEN SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING, IN EVERY BRANCH OF OUR GREAT GOVERNMENT. THE ENEMY FROM WITHIN, WANTS TO ROB AND STEAL THESE RIGHTS OF OUR AND THE ENEMY WITHIN WILL SUCCEED IF WE CHRISTIAN AMERICANS KEEP LETTING THIS ENEMY WITHIN HAS HIS UGLY, DANGEROUS WAY. LORD GOD HAVE MERCY ON US ALL. THANK YOU, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, THAT WE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE OR REJECT YOU. IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN

Here is yet another example of the line separating church and state becoming even more vague in this country.  Mixing politics and religion is very dangerous.  Remember the Salem witch trials and the crusades?  This church and other churches like it should have their 401c3 status revoked.
