Remaining suspect in Conway taxi robbery turns himself in
CONWAY – Conway Police have arrested a man in connection with the April armed robbery of a taxi cab driver.
According to a press release, Dajon Saheem Gamble, 17, of Conway and was charged with Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Assault and Battery with the Intent to Kill, and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Gamble contacted police on Monday and turned himself in later that day without incident.
On April 28, Conway Police Officers responded to Brown Street to the report of a motor vehicle accident where a taxi cab crashed into a utility pole.
The driver of the vehicle reported to officers that she received a phone call to pick up persons in the area.
The driver stated that when she arrived at the location two black males entered the back seat of the cab and one of them grabbed her around the neck, held a knife to her throat and demanded money while the other black male repeatedly punched her in the face.
The victim stated that she feared for her life so she pushed the gas pedal to the floor accelerating down Brown Street until the taxi hit the utility pole.
The driver was transported to Conway Medical Center by ambulance and was later transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment.
Gamble appeared before Judge Jane Mackey Tuesday morning for a bond hearing and received a $25,000 surety bond on the charge of Armed Robbery, a $10,000 surety bond on the charge of Kidnapping, a $20,000 surety bond on the charge of Assault and Battery with the Intent to Kill, and a $5,000 surety bond on the charge of Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
