Phones down at Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office

Phone lines are temporarily restored at the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Neil Johnson said on Wednesday they are not expected to be fully functioning for the next 24-48 hours.

He said the emergency 911 services are not affected by the down phone lines.

Johnson said technicians do not know yet what caused the phones lines to quit working, but they are working with HTC to have them restored.

“The service to the Sherriff’s dept is being routed over a city owned fiber optic network.  That fiber network has been damaged and HTC was called in to repair the damage,” said Scott Everett, HTC Chief Executive-Plant Operations.

“HTC is under contract with the City of Georgetown to repair the fiber.  The outage is unrelated to any services provided by HTC to the County.  HTC crews are currently on site assessing and repairing the damage.”

HTC crews are working on a permanent solution to restore the phone lines.
