The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce held a ‘meet the candidates’ forum for its members and the public, on Tuesday,. at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center in North Myrtle Beach.
The forum moderated by Eddie Dyer, VP of Coastal Carolina University. Only prepared questions were presented to each of the council candidates and mayoral candidates. A chamber panel selected the questions from those provided prior to the event.
Each candidate got a chance to talk about his or her platform.
Among the candidates was Mayor Marilyn Hatley who is being challenged by Gary Stevens, Gene Sheppard, and Dawn Lampen.
A set of prepared questions that came from the public was presented to each candidate.
Some questions were based on the local tourism, the city’s economy and how more competitive business will be brought to the area.
“This is what our democracy is all about and it doesn’t get anymore basic then local elections and we have the city council and mayoral elections coming up the first of November and you know these are hometown folks giving their time and of their talent to lead our city and it’s important for our citizens to understand who they are and what tey stand for,” said chamber CEO Marc Jordan.
A similar forum will be held tomorrow night at 7pm at the Bryan Floyd Recreation Center on Possum Trot Road in North Myrtle Beach.
