A Surfside Beach man continued to recover Monday after being hit from behind by a car while he rode his bicycle down a frontage road in Surfside Beach early Saturday morning.
The accident happened in front of the Surfside Beach post office along a frontage road that runs parallel to Highway 17 Business.
Surfside Beach Police charged 42-year-old Tara Lies Forsythe with felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury after investigators said she ran into the man with her car.
Forsythe left the Dagwoods Deli, travelling south, just before the crash according to the arrest warrant.
The victim had a “massive head trauma” and a compound fracture of his leg, according to the warrant.
Forsythe failed two of three sobriety tests and blew a 0.12 on a breathalyzer, according to the warrant.
The victim was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina, according to medics.
Police booked Forsythe into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center just past 5 a.m. Saturday.
A judge set Forsythe’s bond at $7,500.
No word yet on a court date for Forsythe.
