Myrtle Beach candidates meet voters at ‘stump’

It was an old time “stump meeting” as Myrtle Beach candidates running in the upcoming elections answered questions from voters.

The political forum was held at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot.

The local NAACP branch and the South Carolina African American Heritage Foundation put the event together.

Between bites of fried fish at lunch, the candidates talked to voters and met with them to have one on one personal discussions about their stances through the day.

News 13 asked some people who came out to the event what issues mean the most to them and how they’ll base their vote.

“I’m basing my voting decision on the candidate that i feel can best service the people in the community and service the city of myrtle beach and push for those things that will make changes, create jobs, and work with education,” said Marcella Swans.

“I would just like to see the candidates step up and do as they promise once they’re in office. Too often you come out and sound really good and once you’re in office, a lot of that changes,” said Mary Riley.

All of the candidates running for mayor were on-hand, with the exception of mayor John Rhodes who told the event’s organizers he had a prior commitment.
