Some of the votes in Tuesday’s Myrtle Beach runoff election were not all counted by the election commision.
According to a press release, after yesterday’s municipal runoff election, the city received questions about the unofficial vote totals from the Dunes 1 precinct at Fire Station No. 5 on 79th Avenue North.
This morning, the city contacted Sandy Martin, director of the Horry County Voter Registration and Elections Office.
Martin reviewed the voting machine printouts presented last night and confirmed that vote totals from one of three machines in that precinct did not print when the poll clerk collected the results.
As a result, totals from that one machine were not included in last night’s unofficial election results.
County elections staff had collected the voting machines from the precinct location this morning, prior to the city’s inquiry and Martin’s determination that votes from the one machine had not been included.
The county will retain possession of the machine today and bring it to the Election Commission meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at Myrtle Beach City Hall.
At that time, Martin will retrieve the votes from the third machine and present those numbers to the commissioners.
The Election Commission then will canvass the complete vote and certify the final results. The candidates and the public are invited to attend the Election Commission meeting.
The difference between the number of voters who signed in at the Dunes 1 precinct yesterday and the number of voters whose ballots were presented last night is approximately 257.
The exact numbers will be available once Martin retrieves the third machine’s votes in the morning.
