On Nov. 3, Horry County Police opened an investigation into allegation of sexual assault against two 6-year-old “special needs” children after one of the children acted out a sex act inside a classroom, according to a Horry County police report.

School officials interviewed the child, where the boy told officials that 28-year-old Shane Vance McCain had performed similar acts on him and the child said McCain had the child do the same to him, the report states.

The assaults happened between March 1, 2007 and Nov. 3, 2008, according to arrest warrants.

The child described the object McCain is charged with using to assault the children in detail, and the state Department of Social Services found the object inside McCain’s home during a follow up investigation.

County police officers went to McCain’s home, collected evidence, and DSS investigators told McCain to leave the home until an investigation into the allegation was finished.

Monday, DSS investigators and forensic investigators interviewed the children at the Children’s Recovery Center in Horry County.

Late Monday night, Horry County Police arrested and charged McCain with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 year old.

As of this posting, McCain remained jailed at the J. Reuben Long Detention center awaiting a bond hearing on the charges.

If convicted of the charges, McCain faces up to 30 years in prison for each count.
