Horry County Schools announce school Teachers of the Year winners
Published: November 6, 2009
Horry County school teacher nominees for Teacher of the Year for the county were announced Friday.
According to a press release, a teacher in each school within Horry County Schools has earned the honor of being chosen by his or her peers as the school-level Teacher of the Year.
This recognition pays tribute to a teacher’s professionalism, effectiveness, and commitment to the profession.
Now, each of these teachers will vie for the title of the Horry County Schools’ Teacher of the Year, a title that is currently held by Georgia Holley, a social studies teacher at the Scholars Academy.
Each school winner will complete an application for the county title.
Applications are reviewed by a committee of educators, administrators and community representatives.
Ten semifinalists will be notified on February 24, 2010. The semifinalists will be interviewed by a committee where they will share artifacts of student achievement.
The list of semifinalists will be narrowed to five finalists on March 12.
The five finalists will be observed in their classrooms by committee members and the Horry County Teacher of the Year will be named at a banquet on May 4.
