Horry County school board meeting
The Horry County school board welcomed four members.
Kay Loftus, Paul Peterson, John Poston, and Trent Hardee were given the oath of office at Monday night’s board meeting at the Academy for Technology and Academics.
The four were sworn in by Horry County council chairman Liz Gilland.
Peterson and Loftus are returning board members and Poston and Hardee are serving for the first time.
Poston, who represents District 8, which covers Carolina Forest, Conway, and Socastee, said he is excited and glad to be on the board and hopes to make a difference for the children and families of Horry County.
Poston said, “I want them to know I care, I want them to know that I’m a parent of three children in Horry county school district, that I’m looking out for their tax dollars being used here in Horry County and I’m always looking towards Horry County being one of the premier school districts in the state of South Carolina.”
Hardee, who represents Aynor, Conway, and Green Sea Floyds said while he is a little nervous, he ready to get started. Hardee said he’d like to focus communication between students and teachers.
“I’m a product of this school district that I’m representing and so I feel like I’m very in touch with the people in my district, and we’re looking forward to facing all of these challenges together.“ said Hardee.
All four members ran in uncontested races.
