Disabled man evicted from Galivants Ferry home
Disabled man evicted
Disabled man evictedJeffery Fisher is without a job and now without a home.
Fisher, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was evicted from his home in Galivants Ferry last Monday.
“My children have to have a roof over their head of some sort. And as of the moment, the last thing we were told is there’s a homeless shelter in Conway,“ Fisher said.
He says his family could not afford to pay rent fees after his long-time girlfriend, who lives with him and their two children, lost her job.
Fisher says he went to his landlord on July 3rd and asked for more time to pay his monthly rent dues, which were due on that day.
Fisher went to the Waccamaw Economic Council for help. They agreed to pay for his rent for the month.
When he brought the economic council check to his landlord, along with the paper work that comes with it, his landlord decided not to accept the payment, in part, because he says she didn’t want to fill out the papers.
His landlord says Fisher was 28 days late on paying his rent for June and after he was late with the payments again in July, she decided to find a different tenant. By law, landlords do not have to accept checks from a third party, and she could rightfully evict Fisher who was late on his monthly payment for July.
The Horry County Magistrate’s office upheld the eviction and he was given 24 hours to leave his home this past Monday.
Fisher is currently living with his girlfriend’s mother in Galivants Ferry. He’s hoping to find a more stable situation.
“Your kids look at you and ask you where are you going to go? And sir, you have no idea what that feels like. And for my kids, to wonder where they’re going to sleep, I don’t know how to put it into words. I really don’t,“ Fisher said.

I do want to receive e-mails about my comments…
does anyone ever realize how easy it is to become homeless? I have been fortunate in my life…my husband has been successful and now is retired and is drawing a fairly good retirement check…and I feel like we are very lucky…but then my daughter gets laid off from her job, is a single mother, and can’t get any type of help from the government…no food stamps or any help….and naturally her unemployment barely pays any bills…If my husband and I were not able to help her out, she could very easily become homeless…..I am really concerned about our country….not just my close family members, but our country as a whole… and my heart goes out to this man and his family and all the other homeless people….
This is precisely why I stated weeks ago when the homeless man died at the tracks that all homeless people are not homeless of their own freewill. Prime example.
This is probably only the beginning of more to come as people struggle to survive in this economy. Where will all these people go when there is nowhere TO go? This is just a peek at things to come in our part of what appears to be almost a “Third World” America. I hope that those who are able will help these and other people when things get even worse.

so of us do not have the money that others have. how would this landlord feel if someone would have kicked her out of her home. this is wrong. i understand that the landlord needs her money but im sure with being a landlord she has more than one house out there that she is renting out. i understand if people just arent trying but this man was actually trying to pay his rent payment and now him and his kids and his girlfriend out without a home. what if he didnt have any where to go where would his kids sleep? this is wrong and not fair. im sure she has had family somewhere along the line that hasnt been as well off as other families and how would she feel if this was her family that this was done to im sure she wouldnt like it all. she needs to get down her knees and thank god for the things that she has and thank god that she a place to live and next time take to heart that someone is trying to get her her money and that they arent trying to cheat her out of anything. im sure if this man wasnt trying he would have never made and effort to go to the place and try to get his rent paid. the ones that are trying to make something out of themselves has to suffer but the ones that arent trying to make anything out of themselves gets buy with whatever they please and dont have to suffer. my thoughts and prayers are with this family and i hope that they can find them somewhere to stay.
I feel so bad for this man and his family…It could happen to any of us….I do hope that some how he will find a way…and I think that the landlord should have given him another chance…I can’t even begin to imagine putting someone out on the street…
This is a sad situation! I feel sorry for this family. May God bless you!
