H.E.L.P. asks for voter volunteers.

Organizers of the Myrtle Beach-area group “H.E.L.P.,“ which stands for “Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians” held a voter volunteer meeting.

Next Tuesday is Election Day in the city of Myrtle Beach for three council seats and for mayor.

The purpose of Wednesday night’s meeting was to get volunteers for next Tuesday for jobs like poll workers, precinct captains, canvassers, drivers, and dispatchers.

H.E.L.P. was formed after the city of Myrtle Beach enacted ordinances this year to curb the biker rallies.

The group says it opposes the incumbents who are running for re-election.

I agree with you Saywhat! But the idiots are also running county council and other towns in the area too. So H.E.L.P. has one heck of a task ahead of them. The problem is that those who vote for people (whomever they may be) do so for a variety of reasons that aren’t always in the best interest of the community. One person might vote for “Bubba” because he met him one time and thought he was cool while another voter might vote for “Bessie May” because she goes to the same church as the voter. Voters do not always vote on the issues nor for the best qualified candidate as is the case in Horry which has many bible belt minded folk who place more belief & spiritual aspects often well ahead of voting in someone who has actual credentials/experience and/or the motivation to get the job done. I.E. “good ‘ol boy” crap. Politicians in localized areas often remain in office for periods of time because once elected, they can influence others who are simply star-struck by their office and title. This is an aspect as to why many local board members, council members continue to have the same elected officials on them year after year unless one of them commits an act of crime or an action involving moral issues that go against the grain of the communitys they serve. Another aspect that is the majority of these elected officials are involved in business and are embedded in the communitys, as stated this is a good way for them to get into office by having friends, family, business clients & associates vote them in after promising to “take care” of those who vote for them. While many do not actually say those exact words, the intent is often very clear.
