The first baby of 2009 at the Conway Medical Center was born at 4:37 a.m. Thursday.

Sonda Miller, gave birth to Keaon Christopher Jace Wilder, early Thursday morning.  She couldn’t believe her new baby boy gets the rare distinction of being Conway’s first 2009 baby.

“I was surprised.  I figured there was more than one baby at least born before 4 o’clock, but apparently nobody else came in yet. I was happy,“ Miller said.

What’s also unique about baby Keaon is not only was he the first baby born here at the Conway Hospital, but also what time Sonda went into labor.

Miller says, “Exactly at 12 o’clock last night I was starting to go into labor, but I didn’t think I was.  So at 1 o’clock they were 5 minutes apart, the contractions were 5 minutes apart.“

She said they got to the hospital by 2 p.m. and then officially at 4:37 a.m. Keaon entered the world weighing 5 pound 13 ounce and measuring 19 ½ inches.  He’ll join older brother Tristan, and dad Antonio.

Nurses at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center say the first baby born there in ’09 was a boy.  He arrived at 12:18 a.m.
