MYRTLE BEACH - Grand Strand Regional Medical Center officials have announced visiting restrictions for flu season, effective November 1 – March 15.
According to a news release, visiting will not be allowed for individuals under the age of 19 or by anyone who is experiencing any flu like symptoms such as fever greater than 100, cough, sore throat or runny nose.
Officials strongly discourage pregnant women from visiting the hospital as a precaution to protect themselves and their unborn child, the release said.
Visitors are encouraged to send e-cards to patients at http://www.grandstrandmed.com. The patient e-mail service is available under Patients. E-cards are delivered Monday – Friday.
“The visiting restrictions are to protect our patients, staff and visitors during the flu season,” hospital spokesperson Joan Carroza said in the release. “Our priority is to keep patients and staff safe. This year, we have required all staff members to have a seasonal flu shot or wear a mask from November 1 – March 15. Over 90% of the staff has obtained a flu vaccination.”
Additional visiting restrictions apply in the hospital’s two emergency departments including allowing only one visitor per patient and restricted seating areas in the waiting room, the release said.
“We hope we do not have a strong flu season,” said Carroza, “but we are prepared. Our staff has been responsive and we have discussed the visiting restrictions with our volunteers and volunteer chaplains to help us communicate in the community.”
