Thanks to the Doggie-Palooza pet adoption event held at the Grand Strand Humane Society, close to 60 cats and dogs have new homes.

Volunteers at the humane society say the shelter is overrun with both dogs and cats and is caring for double its capacity.

To help find homes for the animals, the humane society waved its $80.00 adoption fee to help people afford the animals.

The shelter accepted donations in place of the adoption fee.

“So what it promotes is people who sometimes in this economy who can’t pay the 80 dollars can pay a donation and they get to take them home as members of their family so we’re hoping to help the community for those who want animals and to help our animals at the same time,“ said Sandy Brown, Executive Director of The Grand Strand Humane Society.

The animals adopted today were spayed or neutered and have all their shots, making it easier for their new owners to take care of them.
