NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Golfers are teeing off on the South Carolina coast to help the victims of a wildfire that scorched hundreds of acres earlier this year.

Thursday’s pro-am at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach will raise money to help some of the 70 resort residents who lost their homes in the April fire and were not covered by
homeowners’ or renters’ insurance.

The fire scorched more than 30 square miles, destroying more than 70 homes and damaging 100 others.

The resort’s Fazio course, where the event is being held, was also damaged. Trees and plants around the course were charred and two bridges linking holes were burned.

The course reopened on July 1 after repairs were made.
