Surfers from across the country are hitting the ocean in Surfside Beach as part of the Ocean Expo to raise money for the Guy Daniels foundation.

The Guy Daniels foundation has raised over $20,000 for scholarships for local students the past ten years.

The scholarships are named in honor of Guy Daniels.

Daniels lived in Surfside Beach and died unexpectedly in 1999 when he was only 19-years-old.

Jim Daniels, Guy’s father, is helping to run the expo and says he hopes the event helps students achieve their scholary dreams through the foundation and event.

“We have about 125 surfers, which is about as many as we can handle and every year it seems to get a little better, and we’re tickled to death,” said Daniels.

The Ocean Expo continues Sunday.

It is happening near 13th avenue in Surfside Beach from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
