When Aynor Mayor Rob Taylor woke up early Tuesday morning, he said the sight downtown looked “like Christmas morning.“
Instead of holiday festivities, though, what he saw were huge, bright orange flames shooting out of the J & L Cleaners building on South Main Street.
“It’s devastating,“ he said Tuesday morning.
According to investigators, it broke out around 4 a.m.
Todd Cartner with Horry County Fire Rescue said the building is a total loss, as the roof collapsed during the fire.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
For the store owner, Jim Carroll, and his family, the fire was a shock, but now they say it’s time to move on.
“I don’t think it could be any worse,“ said Carroll’s daughter, Jenny Chestnut. “It’s my father’s way of life, basically. We’re just waiting to see what’s going to happen.“
