Myrtle Beach police are investigating after a 14-year-old girl was found in a swimming pool Sunday night, and is now in the hospital in Charleston.

According to an incident report, officers responded after the call for a possible drowning came in from the Oceans One Resort in the 100 block of Ocean Avenue North.

Witnesses told police the girl was found in the pool, and was not breathing.

Responders and witnesses resuscitated the girl, and she was taken to a local hospital.

According to police, doctors at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center found injuries that could mean the girl was sexually assaulted.

Due to her condition, she was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

According to Captain David Knipes, the girl is no stranger to police because she has been reported as a runaway on many occasions.

“Needless to say, whether she’s a runaway or not, the more important question is: what happened to her,“ said Capt. Knipes.

“We don’t know who she was hanging out with, where it happened, and we’re not able to talk to her right now,“ Knipes said.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call Myrtle Beach police.
