Conservatives for Responsible Government hosted a luncheon for U.S Congressman Henry Brown Thursday afternoon.
The event happened at T-Bonz Gill and Grill where close to 90 people turned out to listen to what the congressman had on his agenda about issues surrounding South Carolina.
Though it wasn’t exactly a town hall meeting like the one held yesterday with Senator Jim DeMint the healthcare reform topic kicked off Brown’s podium discussion.
“This is a bad plan,“ said Brown, “these are a lot of concerns particularly with the senior citizens when they’ve got health Medicare advantage and we are talking about taking away a lot of those benefits in order to pay for the cost of this health care.”
The crowd shared the same concerns that were present at senator DeMint’s meeting. One person stood up and said to the congressman that “the bill must be stopped dead cold.”
“I think it’s major issue with South Carolinians and all across the state,” CRG’s Founder, Freda Muncey, “it’s certainly amongst the people that we’re talking with here in South Carolina and it’s a very scary proposition of what ahead of us.“
One protestor who showed up at DeMint’s meeting Wednesday also came with her placards standing outside of the meeting.
“I wasn’t invited to either meetings,” said Rose Dixon, “this is the voice of the silent majority, I think we really need a public option and I really think it serves the best interest of the American people, I don’t know why people don’t see that.“
“I certainly disagree with them (protestors) on this particular issue, but it’s good that they are here to be able to exercise their first amendment rights,“ said Brown.
Brown also talked about government bailouts and the state’s unemployment rates and what needs to be done to put people back to work.
Brown will be at Applewood’s House of Pancakes in Pawley’s Island Friday morning. He’s expected to be there at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited.
